Phonics/Spelling

Today we will continue learning  the alternative spelling patterns for /f/ sound.

e.g. /f/ as in cafe;  /ff/ as in puffin;

Complete the alternative spelling pattern sheet for /f/

Ask an adult to read the instructions to you (see below and the sheet).

1) underline all the different spellings for long /f/ sound in the word list.

Practise reading all the words in the lists (sound out and blend) to yourself first. Then read them to an adult - tick the ones you read correctly.

2) Underline all the different spellings for long /f/ sound in the passage (text) . Then read the text.

3) In the last box, write a sentence using a word/words from the lists and draw a picture to go with it (illustrate it).

Challenge:

Choose a word from each list and write a sentence for each one.

Remember to use joined/best handwriting, a capital letter at the beginning of your sentence, word spaces and a full stop at the end of your sentence.

English

T: To deepen the opening.

In this lesson we will deepen our description of our setting, main character and precious object. We will do this by drawing and then labelling with descriptive phrases.

Watch the lesson video in the link below and complete the activities within it.

I look forward to seeing a picture of your main character and it's special thing, labelled with lots of descriptive phrases and adjectives.

Challenge – Write descriptive sentences about your character and it's special thing. Try an use commas between you adjectives.

Reading

T: To make inferences about a story

Today, I would like you to think about how Stick Man is feeling in different parts of the story.  If necessary, you can go back and listen to the story again or read the story below.

Support: Discuss answers with an adult and write one word answers.  Try not to repeat a word.  Think of different words which mean the same thing.  For example rather than repeating the word sad, can you think of any other words which mean sad?

Challenge: Challenge yourself to independently think of different words/phrases for each part of the story. Why do you think Stick Man is feeling like this? Which clues in the story tell you this?

Make your own passport by labelling the places on the map correctly and colouring in the maps appropriately.  Use the PowerPoint to help you.
